Guguba (zizyphus spinachristi) Mango, Guava and Citrus trees
The fruit fly is very dangerous pest which causes great loss and damage to economical crops. The fruit fly lays eggs inside the fruit where the hatching larvae feed on the inner contents of the fruit and consequently causes siding infection by other pests like dried fruit beetle. The liquid fermons and sticky traps proved for integrated controlling of the oriental fruit fly (Bacterocera dorsalis).
The first phase:
- wide scale of experiments were carried out to indicate the effect of this sort of traps.
- an extension seminar in Dibba Research farm attended by Agri. Engineers and farmers in the Eeastern Agricultural Region.
- protection and agricultural extension distributed liquid fermons among the extension units (112 litre of Methel Yogenol).
The 2nd phase
- Set up controlling programme on fruit fly for Guguba (zizyphus spinachristi), Mango, Guava and citrus trees.
- Give priority in the combating programme to the above species.
- Hanging over the traps on the branches of trees (6 traps for one hectare).
Specifications of sticky traps:l
Sticky trap can be made by the farmenas follows:
Reinforced catoon and plastic material (rough) size 20-50 cm (yellow or green colour or preferable).
Apiece of sponge size 6-7 cm.
- Sticky material like that used for trapping the mice.
- Liquid fermon.
- Wire.
- Gloves.
Preparation of sticky trap
- Cut square hole in the middle of the cartoon length 7.5 cm.
- Fix the sponge to the cartoon trap through liding wire from the middle and hang the trapson the trees.
- Wear gloves and paint the trap from both sides with the sticky material.
- Immersing the sponge in the liquid fermon, takeit out quickly, then press it to kepp the fermon inside the pot.
- As soon as you hang over the trap it starts trapping the files and when the cartoon trapis filled up with flies you can replace it and keep the spunge to be fixed in another trap till the fermon is vanished.
